The
Fit in the Body
Next, we will turn our
attention to the fit of body of the dress shirt. Since we
all have different shaped physiques, we break down the fit in the
dress shirt body to three important areas: the chest, shoulders
and waist.!
We will take an exact
chest measurement and then have you try on a preshrunk chest size
model shirt. Once you have the try-on size that fits
the best, we will then adjust the yoke area of the shirt.
The yoke of a shirt is the piece of fabric that fits across the
top of the shoulder area above the shoulder blades that attaches
to the base of the collar. Increasing or decreasing the yoke
length affects the fit of the shirt in the arm holes. Lastly,
we will focus on the fit across the stomach area that affects the
shape in the body of the shirt. A standard shaping
in a typical full cut dress shirt is minus 4 inches meaning the
waist size is 4 inches smaller than the chest size of the shirt.
This can be increased or decreased depending upon your individual
build and desired comfort. For example, a person with an athletic
build may want a body shaping of minus 7 or 8 inches while a portly
individual may want a minus 2 to 0 inch difference.
Finally, we will measure
and determine the optimum shirt tail length for you. We want
to make sure the shirt tail is long enough to stay tucked into the
waist without being a nuisance.
Pockets
& Other Features
First you choose whether
to have your shirt designed with a pocket or not. If so you
choose the pocket style you like the best (view pocket
styles). Other features like button sleeve plackets, shoulder
pleats, and monograms (view monogram
colors & styles) will be addressed as well.
