What to do when the attire for
the event is “business casual”
What do you do when you are invited to a party or function where the dress
is “business causal”. What to actually wear is very confusing – even
for the fashion experts. It really doesn’t need to be. The idea is
to look sharp – so think sportcoat!
The sportcoat will always work in this situation. After all, the name
itself indicates a more relaxed approach to dress. And with today’s
current fashion trends, you don’t necessarily need to wear a tie.
It is more versatile today than it was 5 – 10 years ago.
You will almost always
have more slack options than a suit, but how about dress sportshirts
and sweaters? For example, try a merino wool sweater or polo shirt
under your sportcoat. These lightweight and super soft sweaters
are not only comfortable but look great.
In addition, you can give your blazer a fancy sportshirt in either a print
or subtle plaid. These shirts are available in button and point collars.
Consider wearing a sophisticated short sleeve knit with your blazer during
the warmer months.
One basic rule to remember when selecting an outfit for a particular event:
When in doubt, it is always better to be overdressed than underdressed
for the occasion.
